My account has been hacked please help?

Hi early in the mornign someone hacked my email and changed all my passswords to other things. thank god i figured it out before i singed off my games and stuff. but He once had access to the email and he gave every detail of it so i can change it myself. i changed personal info pw s&a , everything. alternate email etc. But how did he still access it? It said my security key is timed out from accessingit so many times. whati s this? it wont let me change it? could this be how he did it?please HELP FAST
