Owl superstitions and relationships?

So my boyfriend and I, of over a year, just recently started living apart. I am in IN, and he is in CA. Well today, on his way to work, he told me heard an owl. Which of course who thinks anything of that? Well as I was outside smoking a cigarette approximately 30 minutes ago I very randomly heard an owl hooting right outside my garage door. It's very strange to me that my boyfriend and I both heard an owl on the same night. Has anybody every experienced this? I'm very into believing that there are 'signs' of things happening. What is everyone's opinion?
