Need help starting with comic book report?

Well I'm in 7th grade and I'm doing a book report of the Book "Hoot" by Carl Hiassen. I need to make a comic that has at least 10 boxes, and I need to pick out major events from the book. All of my friends are doing the comic too, but they only had 9 main ideas before the end of the book, while I already had six main ideas(boxes) and I wasn't even to chapter two yet! How can I pick out good main ideas without telling the whole story straight from the book? Thanks :)
